AXILLARY INCISION SCARS

Axillary incision scars

For axillary incision scars, we assess colour and thickness together with friction in the skin fold and tension when raising the arm. Appearance and movement-related discomfort are considered separately.

01 / ASSESSMENT

What we assess

01

Colour and thickness

We assess redness, brown pigmentation, raised tissue, itching and firmness.

02

Folds and friction

Clothing, sweat, hair removal and the surrounding skin are reviewed for irritation.

03

Arm movement and tension

We compare the scar with the arm relaxed and raised, including any restricted movement.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Questions, answered

Is tightness when raising my arm caused by the scar?

We assess scar tethering or contraction alongside other causes, such as shoulder or muscle problems. Restricted movement needs an examination.

Are colour and thickness treated separately?

Yes. Redness, pigmentation, thickness, itch and tightness guide the choice and order of treatment.

What if sweat or clothing causes stinging?

We review friction and skin irritation and adjust care. Discharge, heat, pus or worsening pain should be assessed as a wound problem first.
