HEALED LINEAR SCARS

Healed self-harm scars

For healed linear scars, we assess color, width, height and the texture of the surrounding skin separately. When several lines lie together, we look at the overall contrast and shadows as well as each individual edge. Consultation focuses on the skin as it is now and the changes that matter most to you.

01 / ASSESSMENT

What we assess

01

Red, brown and pale lines

Scars in the same area can have different colors. We distinguish vascular redness, brown pigmentation and pale areas, while checking whether a raised or depressed surface is adding to the contrast.

02

Width and edges

A thin flat line, a widened line and a raised or depressed scar call for different priorities. The transition into surrounding skin and the shadows seen in everyday light help define the treatment goal.

03

An area with multiple scars

The number of lines alone does not determine the plan. We also assess the skin between them, movement at the site, and symptoms such as tightness or itching when choosing the treatment area.

02 / TREATMENT PLAN

A plan matched to the scar

01

Vascular laser for red lines

For prominent redness, we consider vascular laser treatment such as Vbeam. Changes in color and scar thickness are reviewed together before the next step is planned.

02

Fractional treatment for texture and edges

Er:YAG treatment such as Lotus III is an option for rough texture, shallow depressions and uneven edges. Closely grouped lines are assessed together with the surrounding skin and the area that needs to recover.

03

Treatment matched to scar shape

Firm raised segments may be assessed for scar injections, while depressed or pulling segments are checked for tethering before additional treatment is considered. Color and structural concerns are addressed as separate parts of the plan.

BEFORE YOUR VISIT

Prepare for your consultation

  • Tell us approximately when the scars formed and about recent changes in color, height or itching. Share only the background you feel comfortable discussing.
  • Bring details of previous laser, injection or surgical treatment, current medicines and any history of thick scarring.
  • Point out the lines or areas that concern you most, and discuss practical needs for covering the area, washing and returning to your usual activities.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Questions, answered

Can I discuss old scars that have turned pale?

Yes. We assess pale color separately from width, depressions and rough edges. The plan distinguishes changes in contrast from the surface features that may be addressed.

Will every line receive the same treatment?

Not necessarily. Redness, elevation and depressions can differ from one line to another. We review the whole area, start with the most prominent concern and adjust the next area according to healing and response.

What if there is also a wound that has not healed?

An open area, discharge, warmth or pain should be assessed by a clinician first. Scar treatment is planned after the wound's healing status has been checked.
